Frequently asked questions of BoysTown Lotteries
Q. How long do I have to choose which property I'd like?
A. If First Prize is a choice of properties, you have seven days from the draw date to advise which Prize option you will take.
Q. Are Prize Homes built by BoysTown Lotteries or purchased?
A. The majority of BoysTown Lotteries' Prize Homes are purchased ready built, with one or two homes newly built each year. Only those ready built homes that meet our stringent criteria are purchased. They are then landscaped, decorated and furnished to the luxury standard BoysTown Lotteries' customers have come to expect.
Q. How many winners keep the Prize Homes?
A. Recent trends show approximately 50% are keeping their Prize Homes. The decision to sell or not is largely governed by the individual circumstances of the winner, and could be influenced by the health of the property market at the time. We believe the high property prices experienced since 2003 may have influenced many recent winners to sell. In instances where a house and holiday unit is won, many will keep the holiday unit for family use regardless of whether the home is sold.
Q. How is the draw conducted?
A. Draws are conducted at the BoysTown Lotteries Prize Homes and the location shown with Lottery conditions on the back of the ticket, Lottery brochures and on the website. Draws are conducted under State Government and Territory Licensing Regulations. A BoysTown Lotteries official who is not a ticket holder is responsible for the conduct and supervision of the draw, and a CPA is also in attendance. The barrel is a motor driven perspex see-through rolling cylinder with six compartments. Each compartment is loaded with numbered balls covering all possible ticket number combinations for the lottery. This means that if the lottery has a maximum of 290,000 tickets, the first compartment will need to be loaded with three balls, 0, 1 and 2 while each subsequent compartment is loaded with balls numbered 0-9. With the press of a button, the barrel rolls for a minimum of 30 seconds. When it stops, the numbered balls automatically fall into the holding compartments producing a winning number when read from left to right. The process is repeated for second and third prizes and as each number is drawn, it is checked against our computerised record of sold and unsold tickets. If the number drawn is an unsold ticket number, then it will be re-drawn until we have a winner. The EasyOrder prizes are drawn by computer. All numbers drawn, sold and unsold, are recorded according to legislative requirements.
Q. How are winners notified?
A. If we have a current daytime telephone number or fax number, we will use these to contact the First Prize winner and inform him/her/them of their prize as soon as the results from the draw have been confirmed. In order to do this we need to have a current daytime telephone or fax number for the winner. We encourage all our customers to provide current contact details when ordering tickets for this reason. Are your contact details up to date? If we cannot contact the winner by phone/fax etc. they will receive their notification by registered mail along with other prize winners in the Lottery. These letters are prepared immediately following the draw and mailed within one working day of the draw.
Q. Where do I get lottery results?
A. Lottery results are E-mailed to current Lottery ticket holders who have joined BoysTown Lotteries' E-mail list prior to draw day of each Lottery. If you'd like to be one of the first to receive results and e-mail Lottery updates, simply supply your E-mail address when ordering via mail, phone or Internet. We value your privacy BoysTown Privacy Policy. Results for each lottery are published in the 'Courier Mail' (Brisbane) and 'The Australian' on the following Tuesday after the draw and are also available by phoning our hotline on 1900 919 960 (Australia max charge 50c) or checking the BoysTown Lotteries website http://www.boystown.com.au/lot/lifestyle/results/results382.html
Q. What are the odds of winning a prize in the lottery?
A. Your odds of winning a prize are directly related to the number of tickets sold in each lottery. If every ticket was sold in a lottery of say, 300,000 tickets, and the total number of prizes was three, then the odds of winning a prize would be 1:100,000. The odds of winning First Prize would then be 1:300,000. Compare the odds - your chances of winning are substantially better than offered by many major Lotto games.
Q. If I win, can I move in straight away?
A. When you come to collect your prize, you will be met by a representative of BoysTown Lotteries who will take you to your home and officially hand over the keys. You can then move in immediately while we arrange the transfer of title.
Q. Can the winner take cash instead of the house or unit?
A. BoysTown Lotteries cannot substitute cash for the home if you are a First Prize winner or for a minor prize in the Lottery. This is due to the prohibition of cash prizes under current licence conditions. Of course, if you win a BoysTown Prize Property and you'd rather have cash, you can put the home up for sale immediately.
Q. Can I have cash instead of the MultiChance car Prize?
A. BoysTown Lotteries cannot substitute cash for a MultiChance vehicle Prize. This is due to the prohibition of cash prizes under current licence conditions. Some MultiChance Prize winners do sell the vehicle after the Prize has been fulfilled, when cash is preferred.
Q. What can I use the Qantas Vouchers for other than for plane tickets?
A. You choose how to spend your Qantas Travel Voucher Prize. You can select a ready made Qantas Holidays travel package, or design your own holiday to include accommodation and/or flights and/or car hire and/or campervan hire and/or sightseeing passes and/or tours. In fact, virtually any travel product that is offered by Qantas can be purchased with your Qantas Travel Voucher.
Q. Can I choose what colour the MultiChance car is?
A. When selecting MultiChance Prize vehicles for the Lottery, BoysTown relies on availability advice from the vehicle's distributor. However, availability in a particular style or colour cannot be guaranteed at the time of fulfilment. When a MultiChance Prize is won , BoysTown contacts the dealership to organise Prize fulfilment. The winner then selects their preferred colour based on availability and delivery options.
Q. If First Prize is an optional property, does BoysTown provide flights and/or accommodation?
A. We generally find that winners have made the decision on which property to take well in advance. However, BoysTown Lotteries is aware of the difficulties faced when winners need cash in order to view both Prizes being offered and where possible a small amount of cash is included in the First Prize Package for each Lottery.
Q. If the Prize Home closes at 4.00pm on close day, how long do I have to purchase tickets on the Phone or Internet?
A. Tickets can be purchased via our Call Centre and Internet on the evening of close day up to 8pm AEST.
Q. Are most Prize Home winners multi ticket or single ticket buyers?
A. Using a sample of Luxury House Lottery winners over 20 consecutive Lotteries, we found 45% were 2 ticket buyers, 20% 1 ticket buyers and 15% 3 ticket buyers, with the remainder purchasing higher amounts of multiple tickets.
Q. Does the Prestige Car Prize come with Insurance?
A. All motor vehicle prizes in a BoysTown Lottery include on-road and dealer delivery charges but do not include motor vehicle insurance as this is a variable cost directly related to individual driver rating.
