50th Birthday Fun in the Sun for BoysTown Community
Two hundred Queensland staff, friends and families joined in BoysTown's 50th anniversary festivities at Brisbane's Roma Street Parkland recently.
A beautiful sunny 27C greeted guests who picnicked and participated in games run by the Life Be In It Funworks team. Activities included stilt walking, giant earth balls, parachute and fireman toss mat throwing, toga and sack races, along with hand-eye skill challenges. For the less active, were giant games of Chess and Connect Four or simply a lazy afternoon under a leafy tree or marquee.
BoysTown CEO Tracy Adams said she was pleased to see people from most of BoysTown's South East Queensland sites represented at the event.
"Seeing first hand, smiles on the faces of kids and adults enjoying each others company is fantastic," she said.
"All people in BoysTown are dedicated to a common mission and as such are part of a community. It's not often we have the opportunity to join together in an informal setting and get to know people from other BoysTown locations.
"I was very glad to have the chance to chat to people I'd not met before, getting to know those with common goals, and learn something of their family life. That's what being in a community is. It's caring about and supporting those around us.
"We've come a long way in the last 50 years, launching Kids Helpline and youth welfare and advocacy services in 1991, expanding Kids Helpline nationally and growing other services across Queensland, New South Wales, Adelaide and Western Australia.
"I am confident we will continue to go from strength to strength, supporting each other and those we serve with compassion and dedication."
