Youth Connections

Youth Connections is a program for young people aged 14 to 18 years who are disengaged or at risk of being disengaged from education.

The aim of the program is to assist young people to:

  • overcome barriers to social inclusion
  • rebuild their resilience, self-confidence and self-esteem, and
  • re-engage with the community, learning and work

How does it work?

Youth Connections works in partnership with schools, youth networks, health and justice and other community agencies to reach out to young people and help create:

  • individual case plans comprised of agreed goals and strategies for achievement
  • options for addressing barriers
  • opportunities for re-engaging in learning

What does the program offer young people?

Depending on the young person’s needs, the program offers a number of training and activity options in the following areas:

  • arts
  • sports and recreation
  • life skills training
  • literacy and numeracy
  • budgeting
  • healthy eating
  • relationship management

Where does it lead?

When young people are ready, options include:

  • re-entering mainstream schooling
  • undertaking a school-based apprenticeship
  • engaging in tertiary study
  • employment

Throughout this process, young people will continue to have the support of their case manager.
